Native Dream

-Umar Farouk Adeiza

In white heat of day, it blasts
Lustrous thunderbolt, wheeling
Inside my brain, lingering planets
Rooted in cosmic-seat of minutes
Luring my spirit to glossy flares of day.

Frail synopsis, a cargo—temporary shock
Raised on tides of hues,
Slumped in tombs of glow,
Beat back through minutes,
Whispered back by reason,
Weird jungle melody, body notes
Smashing through—not strange.

Lewd scarlet flowers plucking
Alchemy from the ground.
Sun-drenched customs, led by a rosy plant,
Fondled by dark maidens
With sunset eyes,
White robes,
Eyes that blink,
Chanting maiden songs
Of an old forgotten love in darkness,
sunless spots, where images are entombed,
Burnt in eyes of panthers.

Apparently wise, i resist this dream,
Unripe wails embrace my sleep.
