Once upon a life, at night or in the day,
A frog may hop across the path in your choices.
A bird may fall from the sky of your dreams.
Isn’t it funny how we still weep,
Knowing whatever flies could fall?
Sojourner, put your sorrows down,
Rest a while, drink a cup of laughter.
The road of life will always call for a walk.
You may wake to the excreta of a bird,
Whose nest is in your eave,
In your bucket of rain water.
Do not languish, but laugh how birds
Do not care where their excreta falls.
Sojourner, put your sorrows down,
Rest your sighs, drink a cup of laughter.
For the worries of life will always be there.
Ants nibble on bitterleaf
But do not spit out their complaints.
Not for lack of heart large enough,
Or too small for grieving.
Put your sorrows down,
Rest a while, & drink a cup of laughter,
The road of the world does not end.
No one can gulp nor sip up all earth’s sorrows.
Lest the drowned drink up the sea to survive drowning.
Storm may rage, but it cannot break the shadow on water.
Here, wayfarer, is a cup of laughter, drink.
Put your sorrows down, rest a while,
The road of life will always be there.

Great piece as always, Nket.

This poetic piece is so compelling to the heart, urging everyone(sojourners)both great and lowly to take a break from all the worries and anxieties of life and serve themselves “a drink of laughter”. As demands of life will never end, the affairs of life are cyclic in nature, we might never get to see a perfect time where all worries and troubles of life will completely disappear. But amidst all of lives ups and downs, joyous and solemn moments let we “sojourners” consciously “rest awhile and drink the cup of laughter”.
This resonates with the speakings of Jesus Christ in Mark 6 vs 31(AMP version) by telling His disciples to “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a little while”. Taking a break from lives engagements to grab some leisure is not a sign of frivolity nor the absence of concerns, it’s just the break needed to refuel and get back on track; feeling refreshed to “continue on the road of life that always call for a walk”.
This poetic piece will always remind me to take a break from lives demand and “drink a cup of laughter “.
